Christmas is out of the way and before we know it Easter will be here but before then there is the little matter of Valentines Day. Yes, the day that is filled with hearts and flowers, being wined and dined, the complete love fest that is bestowed upon you by your other half…well that is until you have children and realise that the little darlings have taken up all the spare pennies you had so now you have no flowers, no meal out and certainly no plans for extra curricular activities!
Here are 10 ways to involve your little people in Valentine activities and traditions to spark some love back into February the 14th – even if it just tires them out enough so you can have an early night!
The kids are excited to make cards for daddy and of course we will be decorating our dresser for special heart shaped cookies, our favourite PB&J cupcakes and pink unicorn milkshakes with edible pink chocolate lips. I don’t think the boys would like to be involved but the girls are all about love, hearts and glitter so its another excuse to get out those craft supplies! Country Heart and Home
We always make Valentine’s Day cards for daddy! Plenty of glitter, pinks/reds and love hearts. I always try to dress the little ones up in pink/red too. Emily and Indiana
We feel that our house is feeling very bare now that the Christmas decorations have been taken down. We’ve decided to make our own love heart bunting, a Valentine’s wreath and decorate our house for Valentine’s Day for the first time this year. North East Family Fun
We usually go for a ‘romantic’ walk together as a family and then in the evening we put the kids to bed and will have takeaway and a film. Me The Man and The Baby
My children love to bake so we usually make valentines cupcakes or heart shaped cookies. The girls always make Valentine’s Day cards to give to me too! Five Little Doves
It’s funny because Valentine’s Day here seems to be all about romantic love, but in Canada (where I’m from) I grew up always giving Valentines to kids in my class and baking heart shaped treats, so that’s what I do with my kids too. Play Learn Every Day
Our Elf on the Shelf Joey returns dressed as Cupid every year! (click on the link for a full run down of what he gets up to) Big Family Big Fun
There’s a tradition around here, I think it’s a Norfolk thing, called Jack Valentine. Some people call it Old Mother/Father Valentine too. Basically they ring the doorbell and then disappear, just leaving gifts behind for the kids. Can’t wait to do that this year, I know Dil will be so excited!! Dilan and Me
Last year we made Daddy a card and some heart shaped biscuits. Will probably do something crafty again this year! Digital Motherhood
I make cards for Daddy with the little ones, and I also do them a little Valentines basket. For us valentines is about showing the people you love, that you love them, so of course we have to involve the boys in it too. Babies and Beauty
Of course love should be celebrated year round though…
I’m a bit of a valentines scrooge (is there a name for that?) We like to think it’s important to show/tell people you love them whenever possible, but sincerely – not just because you are told to! (So I don’t dislike Valentine’s because I’m unromantic, but because I’m too much of a softie!) Adventures In Tea and Cake
When faced with the question of how to involve the children in Valentines Day you could always go for this option…
Yeah…. Don’t involve them! lol Jon, The MoneyShed
That’s you not getting a cupcake Jon! lol
XOXO

I’m absolutely loving your ideas here, it’s something I haven’t really thought about before but this year I will be implementing some of these fabulous ideas and getting my little ones involved
Thought this was a wonderful idea. Yes the house always does look bare after the Christmas tinsel is removed and the tree packed away in a box and placed away in the loft for another year. Yeah, great read!
I’m really not a Valentine’s Day person, mainly because it’s my fella’s birthday so we just celebrate that! I like the idea of going walking though, always nice to get some fresh air :)!
these are cute ideas! especially making cards for the dad. its so heart warming
Every little girl has daddys heart! 🙂
Aw this is a sweet post. My birthday is the day after Valentines Day so we’ve always involved everyone in V Day but I love all of these ideas! x
Such a cute post! I love the idea of making cookies, even to share with your loved family members. Thanks for the tips xx
