When we were asked if we would like the use of a Vauxhall Combo Life I realised this would be an ideal opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. IKEA and the worlds largest Primark, what is the point in having all that space in a car if you’re not going to use it!
Lets get the whole looks thing out of the way first off. It looks like a van, the bright red colour makes it look a little like Postman Pats van to be precise. So, if you are looking for something uber stylish then maybe this one isn’t for you. Looks aside though everything else was ticking boxes!
One thing you can’t complain about the Combo Life is space. There is so much space it is a very welcome change when travelling.
One cousin, who is 5ft 10in said it was a delight to be able to cross her legs when sitting in the back of the car. The trays gave passengers an airline feel and the sliding doors made it super easy to get in and out in car parks etc. No worrying about the children accidentally hitting the car next to us!
To be honest looking at the boot with the seats down you would be mistaken for thinking there was very little space. We managed to get more than 10 bags of shopping in there with the seats intact.
The one thing that really impressed the drivers was the head up display and the amount of gadgets that were included.
Lane keep assist, rear view cameras, traffic signal recognition and heated seats and steering wheel to name just a few.
As a large family I could see this being a great addition to any household. With small children the peace of mind of being able to fit 3 full size car seats alongside each other in the middle row is ideal. The removable back seats mean there is plenty of space for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Overall the whole feel of the drive was smooth, small niggles with things like the driver and passenger windows being partially obscured which was a little distracting when checking mirrors. Personally if it wasn’t for the overall ‘van look’ of the Combo life this would be an ideal large family car.
We were loaned the car for the purpose of test driving for a weekend. All views and opinions are my own and genuine.
