Long car journeys are sometimes completely unavoidable. Even if you aren’t looking forward to three or more hours out on the road, there might not be any quicker way of getting to your destination.
At least these kinds of long road trips only ever occur when we are going on holiday, so at least you have an exciting destination to look forward to! Even though you and your partner know to make the best of these long journeys, your kids might not be so enthused by the idea of spending a few hours confined to the car. And that means there is a good chance of tears and tantrums! However, as long as you use all the following tips and tricks, you should be able to get through your next long car journey without too many complaints from the back seat!
Pack Some Snacks
One of the main reasons why your kids will start to complain and get agitated in the car is that they could quickly become hungry or thirsty. And once they start asking you for something to eat or drink, they just won’t stop until they get something! You know how kids are, after all! So, make sure you pack a few snacks and bottles of water in the car before you set off. Ideally, you should go for healthy snacks like fruit and cereal bars so that your kids don’t get too hyperactive from too much sugar!
Look For Travel Games
You should also try and keep the kids entertained throughout the journey as well. That way, there won’t be any chance of boredom setting in. You could download some movies onto your tablet device or get Final Fantasy 15 mobile game, but it’s also a good idea to get some traditional travel games as well. Most travel games come with cards or game pieces that your kids can play with. Using their hands in this way will certainly help them concentrate on the game and help them forget their boredom!
Plan Regular Stops
Another complaint that you might regularly hear from the back seats is that one of the kids needs to go to the toilet. Unfortunately, kids aren’t as good at controlling their bladder as adults, so it’s important to plan plenty of stops in the journey so that they have a few opportunities to relieve themselves. Sure, this will make your journey time slightly longer but at least they won’t end up relieving themselves in the car!
Make It Comfy
If your kids are able to sleep through the journey, then it will go a lot quicker for them and they won’t nearly complain half as much! However, cars aren’t exactly the comfiest places to sleep. So, you should give the kids some blankets and cushions just in case they do start to nod off.
Hopefully, all of the above tips will help cut out all the tears and tantrums from your future road trips with the kids, no matter how cranky they are!
