Everyone loves a holiday, its the reason most people work all year, with the week in the sun and time away from home in sight. Saving up all year to spend that week chilling out and spending quality time together. However we soon realised that having a big family was going to cause us problems with holidays when we hit the 4+ children mark.
Two adults and two children are no problem – one hotel room, sorted.
Two adults, two children and a toddler – one hotel room with cot, sorted.
Two adults, 4 children – nope, nada, ‘we can accommodate if you have one adult and 2 children in each room!’ Ok so technically double the price and not really a family holiday then?!
Our solution came in the form of camping and staycations, as long as the weather is nice there really is no better place to holiday than the UK! There is so much to see and do and so many fabulous camps around the UK, Ireland and Scotland that you no longer need to spend thousands on holidays abroad, hitch up the trailer filled with your tent and camping equipment and off you go at a moments notice!
It seems I am not alone in our love of camping, here’s what some other bloggers have to say about staycations too.
I love stargazing so I always love the opportunity to teach my girls about the night sky whilst snuggled in our sleeping backs – Kerry. All About A Mini Norris
I love the friendliness on a camp site. Everyone is happy to help out, children are safe and get to meet new friends and enjoy a little bit of freedom around the camp site. We do only stay on small sites tho. We love our camping holidays. – Sarah. Champagne and Petals
Nothing beats unzipping your tent in the morning to gorgeous countryside views. I love how camping allows you to access some naturally stunning destinations. – Samantha. North East Family Fun
I love sitting around a campfire in the evening, kids happily playing with friends they’ve just met, toasting marshmallows, relaxing with a mug of hot chocolate or a glass of something alcoholic. – Lauren. Mummy is a Gadget Geek
Its a good excuse to have a BBQ for every meal. – Steve. Big Stevie Cool
The inevitable sound of rain on the tent as you’re huddled up going to sleep. That’s not sarcasm by the way. I adore that sound! – Amy. The Mighty Duxburys
The freedom it gives my children to roam and go ‘free range’ with their friends. Experiences like Swimming in Lake Ullswater on our last trip was fabulous-we definitely created some childhood memories at a relatively low cost. – Catherine. Here Come The Hoopers
I love feeling my most hippy self! Feeling free and ‘at one’ with nature. (Until I get home and bask in the creature comforts again). – Nyomi. Nomipalony
I love waking up in the great outdoors, surrounded by fresh air and cooking breakfast over a camp fire. – Sarah. Kippers and Curtains
Do you love camping too?
What is your favourite thing about outdoor life?
