We touched on the Rubik’s cube original when we did the review for the new Rubik’s junior a couple of weeks ago. The girls love playing with the simpler version of this classic but they proved a little too easy for Ethan who reverted back to the 3×3 original cube.
As much as I enjoy playing with a Rubik’s myself I really can not see either of us heading to the World Cube Championships anytime soon – did you know that the world record for completing a cube is 4.69 seconds. I can’t even make make a cup of tea in that time and as I am getting older my reactions are getting slower too – not so much that its noticeable I’m sure but even remembering which twists and turns I have already done are soon forgotten!
I have hope that Ethan could become the next champion but for now I am more than happy to have something he can sit and concentrate on for a little while. Being a teenager is hard and there are way too many distractions so something as simple as a Rubik’s cube is great for helping to keep him focused on something other than growing up!
The girls enjoy messing around with it and it is great for dexterity and keeping little hands moving, Amelia has always had good hand eye co-ordination so I am hoping that she picks up the fact the colours are meant to be all on the same side. She really does grasp things really quickly so fingers crossed she could be the next world champion – if she could sit still long enough!
As long as they don’t follow what I use to do and peel off the stickers to cheat then I will be a happy mummy!
RRP: £12.99 but at the moment it is less than £7 on Amazon!
