With a steady growing mountain of wooden items taking up space in the garage I thought it best to make a start on the girls bedroom furniture. First up is the wardrobe and having just received a delivery of Get On With It stickers and Ronseal Chalk Furniture paint in the girls favourite colours I wanted to make a start while the sun was shining!
Throwing open the doors of the conservatory and hearing Amelia and Scott play outside was such a lovely way to spend an afternoon, it reminded me of being on holiday at https://mygrandparkvillagecondos.ca/ and knowing no prep work was needed for the wardrobe made it all the better!
No primer is needed so after a quick wipe down with a damp cloth to get rid of cobwebs and dust I dismantled as much as possible, the trim and handles were easy to remove.
I gave the trim, shell and inner door panels one coat of Dove Grey with a roller and the drawer fronts and outer door panels in English Rose. Thankfully its just like it says on the tin and is dry within 30 minutes so by the time I had finished the first coat on all the pieces they were for the second coat!
A little tip when painting door knobs, instead of painting your finger tips and precariously balancing them so that the fresh paint doesn’t touch anything simply turn in the screws and stand on the head – this will keep them off the worktop and allow to dry as well as give you something to hold on to while painting!
As you can see, after the first coat is could pass as a wood chalk type stain and I suppose buffed back it would look more distressed and shabby chic. However, the girls wanted the pink to stand out a little more so I gave it all two coats of each paint.
We all adore the finished wardrobe and today I have made a start on the drawers for their room too, I am keeping my eyes out for a couple of bedside tables that we can do up too and I think having a whole set of bedroom furniture custom coloured will make the girls very happy with their room!
The boys have already put their orders in for a set of drawers each in the Midnight Blue chalk paint so I will be Freecycle stalking for the next few months in the hope of picking up some more bits to renovate! The Get On With It stickers will be out in full force and I will share pictures of what is coming up as soon as I can!
Where do you get your pieces from? Freecycle? Ebay? Facebook Marketplace?
Have you found any bargains recently?
XOXO
Debbie
I was sent the paint for the purposes of this review, all views and opinions are my own and genuine.
Ronseal Chalk Paint gives your furniture, doors & cupboards a chalky flat matt finish, and it keeps them protected against knocks and scuffs. Unlike other Chalk Paints you don’t need to put wax or lacquer over it for protection.
Available in 8 colours: Vintage White, Pebble, Country Cream, Dove Grey, English Rose, Dusky Mint, Duck Egg, Midnight Blue
This looks really impressive! I recently bought a wooden children’s table and chair set from IKEA and painted it myself – such an easy way to add your own personal touch 🙂
Wow – what a transformation! I’ve got a rather hideous yellow pine desk that I want to upcycle, I really must get it done!
I love the reformation of this! It would look so great in my daughter’s room too! The fact that it’s chalky too is icing on the cake. Anytime we can have furniture serve a dual purpose, is a win!
Wow!! You have done an incredible job, this looks fantastic 🙂 x
OMG this turned out amazing. I love the colors you choose too. Seriously such a great job!
I have tried several furniture paints, but never this one. My favorite has been the DecoArt Americana Chalk Paint. I like the finish, and I redid a quilt rack with it a few years ago that turned out great.
That is a beautiful piece! I have some furniture that my mom handcrafted (and you can’t even tell). They really need to be retouched because surface damage over the years.
I love the way that piece turned out It could fit so well into many spaces in my home. I like the different shades of color and the outlines, it has a real clean look to it. I have never heard of this paint before but I have a few pieces I need to update, I may have to pick some up!
This is really clever! Well done! I tried to upcycle some furniture but it didn’t turn out this nice!
Love a good up cycle project. Obsessed with watching them on YouTube at the moment. We just moved recently, so I’m really in the mood for doing some projects of my own. Yours turned out so well!
