We have been living with the Redwood Mansion from Big Game Hunters for the past couple of weeks and slowly putting our finishing touches to it to make it our own…well, the girls have as they have had the most input in how it looks. It is their house after all!
The first thing the girls wanted was fairy lights, that was a must when I mentioned even getting a play house for the garden. Fairy lights were top of the list and we managed to pick these ones up that cover the whole roof for only £2.99 from Home Bargains, they are solar too so no need for wires or electricity from the house. Bonus!
Next up were the decorative touches. The girls love anything girly and pretty so when we spotted these beautiful little butterfly tea light hangers for £1 in Home Bargains too we just knew they were heading for a new home. With one of the battery lights inserted there is no safety issue either. I would always be wary of naked flames where the girls are so this was a great little find.
We managed to find a door step mat which is way smaller than normal door mats and had a cute little dog on, the colours matched the house too so things just seemed to fall together on the shopping trip – £2.99, shop as above. Likewise with the solar lights for outside of the door – these were only £1 each and I know they are available in a multitude of stores and styles. The girls chose these as they were a lot smaller than the others we saw so kept everything to scale!
The window box we planted up with 3 trailing plants, we knew the window would open outwards so anything grown in there would need to be hanging over the side rather than growing up. We minimised damage to the plants by going for hanging basket ones that grow down and the girls chose the colours – I was rather pleased with their choices and this whole project has shown me that the girls have their own style and taste and it is pretty darn good too!
Amelia loves sitting in the house and reading her books, I think she loves to just shut the door and get away from things for 5 minutes. They have moved all sorts in there including one of my nest tables and whilst shopping this week they asked if they could have some fresh flowers for the window – with it looking this cute how could I refuse!
I can only imaging this is going to be an ongoing project as they want curtains for the winter and a rug too! We really want to find a wooden play kitchen and little dining set so that the girls can role play a little more too, they love playing house and it is really good from a home ed perspective too to help them learn more.
XOXO
