To go from living in a quiet remote village to the middle of a town again was quite the eye opener and although we are tucked away there is still quite a bit of foot traffic past our home.
With a small front garden we are lucky enough to have a large tree that obscures most of the windows but not enough that we can just have curtains. I am a firm believer in that if the lights are on and the curtains open then people have a free for all to look in the windows – its human nature to want to look!
Having decorated in pale greys and lemon for the living room I wanted something that added a little texture and opted for cream wooden venetian blinds. I always thought that venetian blinds came in either metal (which we use to have in our first home and boy were they a dust magnet!) or plain wood – ie random brown colour so was pleasantly surprised to find that they are available in a multitude of colours!
Working from home I have found that lighting is imperative, I suffer from headaches a lot and looking at a screen all day has its issues. My desk is in front of my bedroom window so not only do i have the screen to contend with but the glare and additional heat from the window too, thankfully if I tilt the blinds it not only keeps the light from distracting me it also keeps the heat from affecting the pc too.
One good thing too is that when the children are watching their cartoons etc and the sun is hitting the windows we can slant the blinds to keep the glare from the TV, there is nothing worse than sitting down to watch a movie and only seeing half a screen!
