Since my last money saving tips went down well I thought I would do another post to help you get in the savings mood ready for a fabulous summer – whether you are staying at home or planning a holiday we all need extra pennies for treats!
Have a good clear out and list all your unwanted items on the likes of Ebay, Amazon marketplace etc. There are lots of different specialist sites out there too like Money Magpie and Zapper, all you do is key in the barcode and they can give you a quote on the price they will pay. Carboot sales are another place you could clean up! Sort out all the bits you no longer want or need and anything you make is a bonus! You could have a fortune in unwanted items lying round your home, sort them out now and put the money in a savings account. Remember, one mans trash is another mans treasure!
This one may be a little controversial but if you have any gifts lying around that you have received but wont use – re-gift! The money you could save from not having to buy another gift could be put aside, you would have had to pull out the monies anyway had you not been re-gifting so pop the savings into a seperate account! (Just make sue you dont give it back to the person you got it from!)
Instead of spending money on take aways create your own ‘fake away’! We recently made our own kebabs and they tasted exactly like our local pizza shop ones – the thing is there are so many rumours about what goes into actual kebabs that by making your own you know what actually goes into them! Chinese takeaway is a huge expense by the time you add in starter etc, we bought a whole duck for £6.99 from Aldi and it created enough pancakes for 8 of us with some left over! That would have costs a fortune had we bought a whole duck from the take away! Try it – you may be surprised and remember to put the savings you have made to one side!
Use Your Talents
Can you do something others need? Decorating, baking etc? Someone else will need your help, pop an add in the local papers or on work notice boards to help others. Maybe do a trade swap if you are in need of something doing around the home, the money saved from hiring an expert can be put away as a saving!
How often do you buy things Just Because? Yep I do it too, ‘ooh that looks nice I will have one of those!’ Learn to say no! No more little bits of plastic tat at the checkout and not more random items bought just because you may use it in the future. If you dont need it right now chances are you wont use it! Put the money away instead!
More often than not you can find a discount code or special offer if you shop online. It really is worth checking sites such as Groupon, Voucher Deals and Hot Codes to see if there are any offers before you buy!
Check the interest rates you are paying, there may be an easier and cheaper way of financing what you want. Double check everything you have going on on HP and make sure you are not paying over the odds, would it be better to consolodate all your outgoings and replace them with one payment? Pounds Till Payday Payday Loans may be a short term solution if you are in a postition to clear everything quickly. Alway double check the small print on loans etc and never borrow more than you can afford. If you manage to consolodate everything put aside the money saved each month.
Take Up A Hobby
Do you spend a fortune on something that you could make a hobby out of? I use to spend a fortune on candles and got sick of lining everyone elses pockets so started to make my own! The fact I can tailor the scents to what I want and know that if I create it to last for 50 hours melt time, it will do just that! Do you sew? How about making your own clothes – that could save you a fortune!
I hope some of these tips will help you prep for summer, have an icecream sundae for me!
