Every so often you see something that makes you stop and look.
I mean, really take in what is in front of you, the layers of pure magic that spread across what was once a blank canvas.
You can see the hours of love that have been poured into a piece of work that really does stop you in your tracks and make you smile.
It makes me smile, not just a facial movement but something deeper inside, an actual feeling of happiness. The layers of paint and mixed medium remind me that deep down I am an artist, that I love to craft and that one day when the children have all flown the nest and I am camped out in my little cottage, I will pick up those supplies and get lost in art again.
I have this piece hanging above our dining table, the focal point of the whole room. It is a statement piece that is talked about all the time, there are so many colours and depths to the art work that something new appears each time I look at it.
Yvonne Coomber (https://www.yvonnecoomber.com) is a British contemporary artist based in South Devon who has a loyal global following. Yvonne’s highly sought-after flowerscape paintings sing of tumbling hedgerows, tangled meadowlands, open moorland and magical forests. They whisper of love. Through her work Yvonne transports the viewer to an effervescent place of happiness; a place where paint smiles. Her mixed media constructions often include glitter, gold leaf and multiple layers of rainbow-strewn glazes and paint that come together to create a perfect harmony. This unique technique encourages her delicate yet sprightly florals to be catapulted up from the canvas in a kaleidoscopic confetti shower of joy. Yvonne’s work is a constant pursuit for beauty and happiness.
In July 2017 Yvonne opened her very own gallery in Totnes, Devon. The gallery showcases a variety of her work; original paintings, limited edition prints, printed canvasses, cards and cushions are all available to view and buy in person. I would love to visit too see more of Yvonnes work up close and personal! My goal is to have my walls littered with these delightful paintings, everyone who has been in my home so far have commented on how beautiful the art work is and I am still smiling each time I look at it!
THAT is what art is meant to do!
XOXO
