Sometimes being a crafter is hard, granted you get to make pretty things but I hate going shopping for decorations or items for show etc as I always think ‘ooh I could make that’ or usually ‘bloody hell that is expensive I could make one for a fraction of the price!’ Anyone else do that when they pick something up and look at the price?!
There are so many fabulous wreaths out there and believe me I have looked at millions of them this holiday season, TK Maxx has some great ones in but even those ones were £25+ and I just cant justify spending that much on something that will get brought out for a month a year! Over the years I have made a lot of different kinds of wreaths including rag wreaths, bling wreaths and even sweet wreaths but this year I wanted something a little more traditional and rustic.
I found this blank twiggy wreath in B&M which was only £7.99 and the ideal base for what I wanted to make, a quick dart into Wilkos and I found some very festive candy looking apples, cinnamon sticks, berry branches and snow tipped pine cones!
They did sit on the table for around a week though while I plucked up the courage to make a start.
All of the ‘additions’ had handy little metal hooks on which I presume are meant to hang them onto the trees etc, these were ideal to wrap around the twigs and hold in place on the wreath without having to use any additional glue. Bonus!
I am quite pleased with how it ended up looking and would definitely think about doing more of my own decorations again in the future. In total the whole wreath worked out to be £17 but its something that I can bring out every year and know that no one else has the same!
Have you made any of your own decorations etc this year? Would you recommend it or are you buying them ready made in future!?
XOXO
