After seeing the homemade Galaxy Jars posted on Buzzfeed I just knew the girls would love similar Halloween versions for the upcoming spooky season!
Here is a simply step by step of how we made ours, I think next time we make them we will add more chunky glitter and a drop less water as the colours did tend to mix a little too well with ours. The girls are very happy with them though so I think this was another success!
Ok, to start with gather all your equipment:
PVA Glue
Spreaders or plastic spoons
Food colouring (not the liquid kind!)
A sprinkle of water
Brushes
Clean dry jars
Containers for the glue mix
Start by pouring a small amount of glue into each of the containers, obviously the amount of containers depends on how many colours you are using.
Next add a small amount of the food colouring, the more you add the more intense the colour will be so start small and work up.
Next up add the glitter, as I said above, next time we would use more chunky glitter as the really fine dust didnt have much impact when the jars were baked!
Using the plastic spoons/spatulas dot the paint inside the jar at random intervals,
swirl to make sure no spaces are left exposed inside the jar.
Make a little bridge from either sticks or tape to balance the jar and catch drips when you prop the jar upside down to empty the excess glue mix. Leave for approx 5 minutes.
Bake in a preheated oven at 170 degrees c for approx 20 minutes or until the glue mix has cleared completely.
Pop in a safety tealight and enjoy your homemade jar! We have progressed from tealights in one to actually using it as a ‘favourite pen holder’. These can of course be used however you wish and look really pretty on display!
Most of all have fun! The kids loved messing around with the glue and glitter more than anything, I am going to make some darker ones and wrap the tops with twine etc to stand outside at Halloween and also make some pretty pink ones to hold my make up brushes etc 🙂
XOXO
