Every year we sit down as a family and watch Wimbledon but one thing we have never done is take lessons. I can remember being young and going to the park with my friends and playing tennis, I even demanded that I was going to be a huge tennis star and needed my own racket! I think that lasted three sessions in the park messing around with friends before boredom set in. If there had been lessons I really do think that I may have stuck with it for longer!
Thankfully the Lawn Tennis Association are offering 20,000 free places across the UK for children aged between 5 and 8 years old. To check out the venues and book your free place head over to the ClubSpark website now – be quick as places will go quickly!
We are lucky to have a venue on our doorstep and have signed up a very excited Evie for lessons this summer. The thought of getting her out of the house instead of cooped up on the tablet, getting fresh air and exercise is great and if it brings on a love of tennis then we are all for it! At the end of the season she will even get to keep her own racket too!
The #TennisForKids programme is specially tailored to keeps kids engaged, even if they’ve never picked up a racket before. It includes ball games to help with hand-eye coordination, softer balls well-suited for beginners, playing on a more-manageable minitennis court (smaller footprint, lower net), and coaches trained in getting young novices excited and having fun.
I have read that parents are encouraged to get onto the court with little ones too which is a huge plus point as i would love to be involved and think it would be great to do this together during the summer months.

This is such a great idea! It’s great for kids to learn a sport and tennis is a great one for keeping fit!
Oh its great to encourage children with sports my little one is a bit young atm for tennis but I’ll certainly encourage him with any sports he wants to take part in.
I love the story of when you were younger and planning to be a tennis star! Hopefully some of the kids who sign up for these amazing sessions really will become tennis sportspeople of the future. Glad you found a course nearby – we did too. x
We got a place for little man and his friends. They can’t wait to get started! 🙂
This is such a great initiative. We live really close to a tennis club so I will be looking into this
I hope its okay to post here! But i’m the tennis coach at Durham Moor Tennis Club and it’s lovely to see that the scheme is being advertised! Our durham course was so popular I applied for 2 more and was successful. The 2nd course is full but there are spaces on the third which will be going live this week!
