Arrrghh moments!
In a change to the scheduled post I feel the need to get something down on paper (screen whatever!) Those with teenage kids and ones age 5 going on 15 might feel my pain and I am hoping you will say ‘damn right stand your ground girl’
Tonight we have had the mother of all meltdowns from not one but two of the children…the joys of having 6 I suppose! They all came home from school happy, I gave them a snack – happy, they went out to play for a while – happy, I asked them to tidy their rooms – all hell breaks loose!!
Now a little background, we moved home in November and the kids went from ALL sharing rooms to being able to have one of their own, their own space, their own stuff, their own sanctuary where no one else can enter unless told to, their own little haven to keep tidy and chill in! Yeah right! More like individual garbage bins to shove as many crisp packets, dirty socks and unwashed cups as possible, this is the 17, 12 and 10 year old – the 5 year old just thinks its cool to empty out complete toy boxes and clothes drawers and not have to replace things. Are you seeing where I’m going with this!
So anyway, tonight I asked them to tidy their rooms as i have spent all day cleaning, hoovering and generally making the rest of the house inhabitable and WWIII kicks off. To the point where I am standing with a rubbish bag outside of said 12 year old room after telling him 15 times to PUT THE RUBBISH IN THE BAG only to be confronted with another ‘OMG I said in a minute’ while he sits with his head in his hands! Now I don’t know if this is code for **honestly I’m planning how my bedroom can stay immaculate without me working on it** or whether its just a stalling tactic while my blood boils a little more! After the 16th attempt to get him to simply put all the bottles, packets and cartons from one pile into the bag, I then remove his tablet and x-box controller and am branded the worst mother of the world award (forgive me at this point for feeling a little excited – its a while since I won anything and hey this is a doozy!) The bag gets filled and the door is then slammed which I can cope with as I the room is actually quite tidy now – I won’t push the hoovering at this point!
Then came the 5 year olds tantrum, don’t get me wrong, Evie is quite old for her age and behaves like a real little mother at times helping me around the house and keeping the boys in check (those with little girls will know what I mean) Tonight however something has rattled the beasts cage and boy do we know about it! First of all she is not wanting Amelia to touch any of her things – I get this, I’m a girl too ( I have sisters, I feel your pain!) but its the whole throwing herself on the floor drama instead of ‘can I have my doll back’ that kills me! Seriously its like Amelia has cut her arm off and ran into the garden to bury it like a dogs bone! Seriously she is standing right beside you wondering what the hell just happened and holding the doll at arms length in fear of her own life! This happens numerous times after Amelia realises she gets a really funny reaction out of hysterical sister – hey she is 1 year old, seeing someone have a conniption is funny!
Add to the mix a 17 year old who is cooking up some kind of medical experiments on the abandoned plates in his bedroom and a 1 year old who thinks its funny to whip her nappy off and hide said nappy then you get a pretty good idea how my day is going!
ME??!! Im now pouring my second glass of wine while they all sit in their clean (well sort of!) bedrooms on a time out! Am I the only one….or will anyone join me for a glass, or two?
XOXO
Debbie (stressed mum of 6)
Oh babe, sounded like a typical day in my house LOL! Hopefully it all calmed down quickly xx
