I have written before about how Durham has our heart so I thought it was about time to invite you all to enjoy this beautiful town we are lucky enough to call home!
Without rambling on for what seems like forever I have enlisted the help of some of my lovely blogging friends who have written about some of the places to visit, restaurants you must visit and things you simply have to do when in Durham.
First up are the stunning riverside walks and Durham Street Food Festival. Once a month the food festival is held in the centre of town from 4pm until late where you get the chance to try lots of street foods, we loved the burgers from Fat Hippo and the Pad Thai from The Asian Project! Definitely worth a visit if you visit on the nights they are hosted!
The Botanic Gardens by the lovely Babyfoote We have had the pleasure of a leisurely walk around the gardens, picnic on the green and the children loved the different activities they hold including Teddy Bears Picnic, Story Time and Crazy Creatures!
Beside university life, the cathedral is always first on the list when people think about Durham, you can’t be a tourist here and not visit the cathedral! Ami from Cranberry and Apricot visited Durham Cathedral and did a lovely write up about how impressive it is and the stained glass windows simply need to be seen! When we visited they were selling pieces of lego which were put together to build a replica of the Cathedral – now that was impressive!
Helena from Babyfoote posted about Durham Oriental Museum. We visited last summer and the kids loved the fact there are Tea Cup challenges from the CBeebies programme of the same name. You had to walk around the museum and find tickets hidden inside the glass cabinets which told you about items that had been used in the programmes. A great way to get children interested in history and at only £1.50 for Adults and 75p for children per visit, well worth it to fill an afternoon!
There are so many fabulous places to eat! Having written a few reviews myself, I can highly recommend Cellar Door, Fat Hippo, La Tasca – just a few of my favourites.
There are so many more reasons to visit Durham and I am sure once you have visited you will agree too!
Thanks to the lovely Helena of Babyfoote and Ami of Cranberry and Apricot for the use of their photographs.
XOXO
Debbie
I can’t believe it took me so long to visit Durham. I absolutely love it now though, especially the little cobbled streets and pancakes at flat white kitchen! You’re really lucky to call it home, thanks for tagging me x
Durham is fab isn’t it? Thank you for sharing these posts. I had no idea the food festival was monthly. They’ve started a wee one up at aykley heads on a Friday each month and there are food trucks by various places including fat hippo.
